Downtown Austin Senior Photos
1. The Barton Creek Greenbelt features natural waterfalls, moss-covered trees, and dramatic limestone cliffs, creating a picturesque setting for outdoor photography. This location requires a 1.5-mile round-trip hike to reach the natural waterfall area and is recommended for adventurous seniors.
2. This popular Downtown Austin Parking Garage requires permission for photography purposes. Your photographer will need to contact the garage management team a few weeks before your photo session to obtain permission.
3. Red Bud Isle resembles the natural, lush greenery of the East Coast and can be reached by car or kayak. I love to capture reflective light and color off the surface of Lake Austin at Red Bud Isle. It’s a beautiful senior picture location in Austin, but parking spots are very limited.
4. The north side of Congress Avenue presents a unique photography opportunity, with the State Capitol serving as a backdrop. I recommend scheduling an early morning session for optimal natural light on a weekend, when there is reduced vehicle traffic. You’ll also find art sculptures and historic buildings along Congress Avenue on the North side of Ladybird Lake in downtown Austin.
5. The Austin Public Library, with its modern architecture and scenic rooftop garden, is ideal for urban senior photos. The library’s public parking garage provides ample parking and offers a reasonable rate for its downtown location.
6. The Blanton Museum of Art is one of my favorite places for seniors who love modern architecture and want an urban setting. The Brazos Garage offers easy parking near the museum.
7. Lady Bird Lake, formerly Town Lake, was renamed in 2007 to honor Lady Bird Johnson for her beautification efforts. It’s renowned for its majestic bald cypress trees and is a popular location for nature-themed senior photos. The lake offers scenic running trails, vibrant wildlife, and a rowing dock with opportunities for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, perfect for capturing athletic senior photos.
8. Zilker Botanical Garden offers beautiful gardens, landscaped waterfalls, and a stunning view of the Austin skyline, providing a gorgeous backdrop for senior photos. A $50 photography fee applies, but it is worth the price!
9. Zilker Park is a stunning park that offers a diverse range of natural beauty. The iconic Barton Springs Pool and Austin’s famous miniature train, the Zilker Eagle, add a fun and nostalgic touch, especially for those looking to capture family portraits with young kids.
10. The James D. Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge is a perfect location for senior photography. It offers stunning views of the Austin skyline and a picturesque setting along Lady Bird Lake in the heart of Austin. Rain or shine – senior portraits always look incredible here!

12. For a different perspective on the Austin skyline, Auditorium Shores, located along the Colorado River, offers a picturesque view that showcases the city’s iconic architecture and natural beauty. Austin City Limits, the city’s premier annual music festival, is held at Auditorium Shores.
13. Butler Metro Park, situated adjacent to Auditorium Shores along the Colorado River, offers a serene urban oasis in downtown Austin with a close view of the Austin skyline. Butler Park features lush greenery, vibrant gardens, and scenic walking trails.
14. The Butterfly Bridge provides a unique architectural crossing over Shoal Creek in Austin. This bridge creates a bright, modern setting for high school senior photography. The historic Seaholm District power plant anchors the Seaholm District, which has been transformed into a vibrant mix of shops, restaurants, and offices. This area offers an incredible urban photography experience.
15. The Palmer Event Center, located at 900 Barton Springs Road, features incredible leading lines with its curved architecture, and is an easy walk to Lady Bird Lake.
16. The University of Texas Campus is another great option for senior photos, especially if you plan to attend UT or if it is a family member’s alma mater. A few of my favorite photography spots on the UT campus include the Littlefield Fountain, the South Mall Gardens, and the UT Tower.
The South Mall on the University of Texas campus is impeccably landscaped, featuring colorful blooms during most of the year.
The UT Tower, rising above the heart of the University of Texas campus, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Austin and a timeless backdrop for senior photos
17. The Drag, located across from the University of Texas on Guadalupe Street, is an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, and street art. It’s a fun place to visit and reflects the spirit of the university district.
South Congress Senior Photos
18. South Congress Avenue is one of Austin’s most visited urban areas and is an excellent location for your senior photography session. Below, I’ve included a few specific locations for senior photos along South Congress Avenue. The vibrant street in front of the Hotel San Jose features colorful murals, eclectic shops, and beautiful landscaping, providing ample photo opportunities. This hotel prohibits photography in its lush gardens to ensure the privacy and tranquility of its guests. The Austin Motel, with its iconic retro neon sign and mid-century modern architecture, offers a nostalgic backdrop for senior photography. If you’re traveling to Austin for your senior photos, it’s also a great place to stay.

22. Austin’s graffiti and mural walls throughout town provide colorful backdrops for artistic high school seniors. Many interesting art murals are located off Burnet Road in Central Austin. Before a photography session, I always scout locations to determine which direction each mural wall faces, as this determines the best time to schedule the session for beautiful light.
23. The Pennybacker Bridge is an arched steel bridge that overlooks the rolling hills surrounding Lake Austin. It’s a highly requested photography location off Loop 360, also known as the Capital of Texas Highway. The best light at the Pennybaker Bridge is at sunset.
If you hike to the highest point, the 360/Pennybacker Overlook Trail offers a different vantage point of the iconic Pennybacker Bridge. Following the walking paths, you’ll find two photo-worthy spots at the top of the incline: one offering a breathtaking sunset view and the other showcasing the Bridge and Lake Austin. Please park at your own risk and avoid leaving valuables in your vehicle, as break-ins are a common occurrence.
24. Renowned as the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin has a vibrant music scene. If you love music and collect vinyl records, Antone’s Record Shop might be the perfect location for your senior photos.
25. The Tarrytown neighborhood is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a classic and timeless location for senior or family portraits. Tarrytown’s blend of historic homes, vine walls, and winding tree-lined streets offers a picturesque Southern setting for portraits in ATX.
